Finally, we are seeing some results!

Elbow grease is the one item I have yet to find at any store in town. I use tons of it, too! Remind me and I will post the recipe for that item some time. I am proud to show you my progress today.

Remember this?
The cattle guard that nearly did my back in. This project is one of several that I have been working on a little each time I go out to the cabin. Today I finished trimming the grass out of it.
It needs to be dug out, as dirt has built up on the outside edges, but that is a task beyond my abilities. The good news here is that I can actually see the bars, so hopefully won't break my neck walking across the cattle guard. For those just joining us, some reference was made in an earlier post about a certain tennis shoe getting stuck in the cattle guard. We won't mention who's shoe that was.

Today I started working on my claw footed bathtub again as soon as I got to the cabin. Progress is abounding on that front. To refresh, there was an overabundance of calcium and lime deposits built up in the tub. My goal is to remove all those deposits. This is what it looked like before I started working on it.
As of this evening, it looks much better. There is still one stubborn streak of the deposit left above the drain. The rust stain at the drain will be my next project, as soon as I find something that will actually remove rust stains from porcelain. After that a good scouring with powdered cleanser, and the inside of the tub will be ready to use. There is one little chip in there, after all, but I am pretty sure I can repair that bit of damage, as well. Would you like to see how far I have come with this project?
The landlady said she has never seen that tub so clean, which pumped my ego up greatly. It won't be long now until Calgon can take me away. A little bit of heaven right in my own bathroom! Yes!

The sink in the bathroom has been abandoned. Today the landlady told me that she is replacing that sink. The plumbing under the sink will be repaired, as well. I don't have a picture of the pipes under there, but instead of a p-trap there is a complete loop-the-loop in the drain pipe. This cannot be a good thing.

While waiting for the Sanivac to do it's job between scrubbing sessions on the tub, I took on another section of the kitchen. My first look at these cabinets was this view.
These are bottles of scent. The soap factory used them for their soaps, candles and lotions. Employees have since come in and packed them up, but there had been leaks, seeps, dribbles, etc., so there were rings of oil on every shelf. Those same shelves are now clean, though in need of painting, as is everything else. I can store my groceries without worry that I will get a big bite of essential oils in there, and that is good enough for right now.

While I worked on the cabinets, with frequent stops to scrub on the bathtub, I also soaked and mopped the floor, one little section at a time. The soap spills and candle wax splatters are everywhere, but seemed to respond well to a good soaking and a vigorous mopping. You can sure see where the work has been done! Unfortunately, the picture of that did not turn out. I should fire the camera operator.

I started the dishwasher, mainly to see how well it works, but ended up cleaning off the counter above it in order to get a full load of dishes to wash. The window and counter will be part of tomorrow's project.
The red stains on the counter are from the dye that goes in soap. It has set in pretty solidly, so I will have my work cut out for me tomorrow! Also all the spots on the blue panel between the washer and the stove are wax spills, which will have to be scrubbed off. (There are splatters all down the front of the dishwasher, as well.)

I didn't really have to clean the stove, as it is going to be replaced, too. However, it just seemed terrible to me to work so hard at cleaning everything else and then leave the stove spotted and speckled right in the midst of all that clean. I think it looks much nicer now that it is clean and polished. Note to self - remember to ask the landlady if you can 'steal' the coffee pot. The extra parts are in the dishwasher getting a good cleaning.

The chemical closet is filling up.

It was chilly and overcast most of the day. While I was at the cabin it started raining. It was one of those nice, slow, drizzling rains that are so relaxing. The roof on the cabin is tin. I really enjoyed taking breaks and sitting out on the porch listening to the rain hitting that roof. I didn't stress about the rain today, or panic over it like I did with yesterday's thunderstorms. It is only the heavy, blowing, thunder and lightening, wrath of God rain that I hate driving in. I finished closing things down and left for 'town' shortly after dark. The trip back to my daughter's home this evening was not the least bit bad, the sprinkling giving just enough moisture to clean the windshield for me.

Here at home we are all looking for jackets for school and work tomorrow. It is supposed to be a tad chillier tomorrow than it was today. Gardens in the area are already getting frost bit and dying. Autumn is upon us!

I'll be back tomorrow evening with the daily cleaning report, good lord willing and the creek don't rise. See y'all then!
