I always miss the excitement!

While I was out running around Texas this weekend, the landlady sent a text to me reporting that the transformer had blown up at the cabin, but that repairs were already underway. No one knew how it had happened, but the landlord had been driving out that way and saw it explode. I did not realize the seriousness of the situation at the time.

I am proud to report the pile of wood is now moved and the road is accessible now.
One of the logs in what is now the middle of the road was easy enough to roll over to where the biggest tree trunk is, but I will have to round up help to move the other one. We will just consider this section as a two lane by-way for the time being.

It wasn't until I pulled up to the house that I remembered the transformer issue. I looked over to see if I could tell any difference. It was at that moment that the seriousness of the situation came home to roost.
Yes, that is the remains of a fire. It went from here....
back further....
to way back beyond the house.

The good lord was watching over us, is all I can say! How the fire kept from burning down the house and both barns is beyond me. I sure am proud the landlord has been out there working on the roads, or it surely would have burned more than some pasture land!

Well, I have done everything BUT work on the cabin the last few days, so once I took a look around at the scorched ground, I rolled up my shirt sleeves and got to work. First things first, we need to hang the bathroom curtain.
Much better. You can't even tell that I shredded the lining when I washed it, can you? Since it is temporary, I ironed it with a heavy dose of starch. Hopefully that will hold the lining together until I start redoing the bathroom! Meanwhile, I have privacy again, yeah!

The kitchen awaits! First for the window! I think it turned out nicely, don't you? I must borrow a ladder from the landlady and get the outside done. It will look very clear after that chore is done.

Of course, you remember what that counter looked like with the dyes on it.
I couldn't get all the stain up, but with lots of soaking with bleach it does look better.
After unloading the load of dishes I had run through last week, I reloaded and started the dish washer before scrubbing the outside. Lots of paint came off the cabinet in this scrubbing campaign, but it is clean and that is what counts right now.

Well, that little section is clean. Now to the next section.
Everything was packed up to take to the landlady. A good scrubbing and we have this.
The sink was pretty easy after the dishes were loaded in the dish washer.
It looks much nicer now that the wax and soap are scraped off.
The cabinet under the sink is missing a door, but it is leaning against a wall, waiting patiently to be reattached. I know I'll figure out the repair on that eventually, but first to see what the actual cabinet is like, under the clutter.
It will take a heap of elbow grease to clean this cabinet. Right now that supply is ebbing, so I think I will stop for the evening and save this for my starting point on my next trip out.
Meanwhile, all afternoon I had been soaking and mopping the floor. Still haven't a really good shot of that cleanup, but I wanted you to know that I did find another mop outside the back door, so I am getting twice as far at a time now.
One day I will get a good shot of that floor!

It has been a long weekend. There are many jobs stacked up at the employee's place, so I may or may not get back out to the cabin tomorrow. Check back and see, won't you? Tell me if you are reading my adventures. Leave a comment for me at the bottom of this page. I'd love to hear from you!

As the sun sets and the chill moves in, I bid you all a good evening before I go!
Y'all come back now, ya hear?
